I tend to think that my security habits are pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. Unlike a lot of people, I don’t use the same password over and over again. One thing I do that isn’t particularly brilliant is that I use the same email account for a lot of my online social networking sites and work websites. The issue, I think, is that it’s extremely difficult to spread all the sites one has to sign up for nowadays to a bunch of different email addresses… Then it’s important for those base email addresses to have extremely strong passwords, which is pretty difficult.
One thing that I know a lot of people do, and that I do to a certain extent, is use similarly themed passwords. Choosing different themes and then adding additional symbols, numbers, or letters through which one can remember that specific website.
Another thing that I am guilty of is using my email address for my username. For instance, for this onmason account, I used by gmu tag– mhannah2. While it’s just my email address, and a lot of people know it, it’s also makes it so that a hacker will know the connection to my mason account.
