Alright, so I find Metallica annoying. Very annoying, and it has nothing to do with their music. It has a lot to do with their ability to be persistently irritating about how awesome and important they think their music is. First, there’s them suing Napster over their music being traded on the file sharing site. Whiney. Nowadays, it’s pretty common knowledge to musicians that they won’t make very much money from their sales of their music itself, in the same way that authors do not make very much money from their books. The issue is distribution. Nowadays, with itunes and other MP3 purchasing websites, there are so many people to pay for the distribution of that music, that it’s shocking artists make any money at all off of the sale of a 99-cent song.
Other reasons I find Metallica annoying:

suing fans for reviewing their music

trying to copyright a chord progression

getting on youtube to remove videos containing their music

the list goes on and on….

I found the article cited interesting, because it’s a large part of the fall of Napster that people forget about. Meh-tallica is very against people listening to their music, apparently…
