My name is Katy Hannah. I am a Junior at George Mason University and a Communication major. I am also doing minors in Music and Film. I like to think that I’m a pretty interesting person, but then again, it tends to be my belief that everyone is interesting in their own right. It is not very often that I have come across a person who is completely uninteresting. Either someone has done something really interesting, or they have interesting ideas or hobbies. And then perceptions of interest are also different. Some people have the capacity to find something interesting whereas others would find the same thing completely boring.
Perception shapes pretty much everything in life, from daily activities to history. I perceive videogames as an extremely interesting way to spend a day– my mother on the other hand, would much rather update her Pinterest account. History is also written in terms of perspective. The way that we are taught about WWII, for instance, would be different than the way they would teach about WWII in Britain, for example. The “discovery” of the Americas by Colombus would be a different story had all the Spaniards died out instead of the Native Americans.
Conclusion: It’s important to realize through what perspective you are seeing the world. And then try to see it from someone else’s point of view.
